Rene Abe named Rakuten Brazil CEO

Rakuten Inc. announced on Monday that Rene Abe has been named President and CEO Rakuten Brazil, effective August 1, 2016.

 
As President and CEO, Abe will leverage his significant local experience in e-commerce and bring together the company’s strategy.
 
Abe possesses over 20 years of experience in banking, e-commerce, internet and FinTech. He most recently served as Chief Operations Officer of Rakuten Brazil since 2015, and prior to joining the company, he served as Vice President of BuscaPe and LatAm Head of Global Core Payments for PayPal, Inc. Abe is also an angel investor in the hi-tech, biotech and artificial intelligence industries.

Established in 2011, Rakuten Brazil is a full subsidiary of Rakuten Inc. Rakuten Brazil started its operations through the acquisition of Ikeda Ecommerce.
