Retail space at UK's Bicester Village set to expand

Bicester Village, the luxury outlet shopping center outside London, is set to become even larger. The company has been given permission by Cherwell District Council to demolish an existing Tesco store, petrol station and part of the existing outlet centre, to provide new retail space and parking.

This will increase the outlet village's space by 56,000 ft², or 24%. The space will accommodate 28 new units. Bicester Village, which opened in 1995, currently accommodates more than 130 units across 235,000 ft², with 1,838 car parking spaces.

Andy Preston, Cherwell's head of development management, said: "Bicester Village attracts millions of visitors from across the world each year so it's important that provisions are in place to meet the demand. This increase in spaces, plus the associated transport improvements, should help to achieve that goal. It will also improve access from Bicester Village to the town centre which will hopefully boost footfall for all of the local traders."
