Rick Owens partners with Champion on sport-goth capsule collection
Prolific American fashion designer Rick Owens has partnered with HanesBrands' Champion for a capsule collection of athletic-inspired basics with a Rick Owens edge.
The ten-piece capsule is imbued with Owens' classic avant-garde aesthetic, offering bodysuit-style tank tops, vests and sweatshirts, as well as asymmetrical t-shirts, mesh vests, briefs and, toga mesh shorts and basketball shorts. Available in a monochrome black-and-white color palette, pieces are decorated with classic Champion logos, as well as a logo that incorporates Rick Owens' signature elongated star symbol.
Pieces from the capsule made their public debut during the Rick Owens Spring/Summer 2020 runway show in June 2019.
Available through retailers like Ssense, Farfetch and Selfridges, the collection retails from $176 to $480.
The Champion capsule is the latest in a string of recent collaborations for Owens, following a multi-drop SS19 collection with Birkenstock, as well an apparel collaboration with Moncler unveiled this past February.
In early February, HanesBrands reported a 1% decrease in revenues in the fourth quarter, as sales in its innerwear and activewear segments declined, but managed to achieve solid growth in its earnings.
The company's net sales for the fourth quarter ended December 28, 2019 totaled $1.75 billion, down from $1.77 billion in the same quarter in the previous year, with activewear net sales totaling at $543 million, down 6.7% compared to year-prior. However, the company's international segment saw a 6.9% increase in sales, amounting to $650.8 million.
The Champion brand, one of the strongest in the company's portfolio, saw a 22% increase in its sales both domestically and internationally, while cross-company consumer-directed sales increased by 17% in constant currencies.
