Brautigan has served in the role since 2016.

Previously, he held the role of group executive vice president, merchandising of Ross Dress for Less from 2014 to 2016. He also served as executive vice president of merchandising at Ross from 2009 to 2014, senior vice president and general merchandise manager from 2006 to 2009, and group vice president of shoes from 2003 to 2006.

Prior to joining Ross, Brautigan spent 20 years in various merchandising positions at Macy’s East, the operating successor to the original R.H. Macy & Co. Inc.

According to the company, senior merchant executives under his areas of responsibility will now report to chief executive officer, Barbara Rentler.

“Bernie has made numerous valuable contributions over his 16-year career as a merchandising executive at Ross Dress for Less,” Rentler said.

“We have a very talented and long-tenured team of senior merchandising leaders directing a large organization of more than 800 buyers. The strength of our merchant team enables us to source the best bargains in the marketplace, which gives us confidence in our prospects for continued profitable growth and market share gains.”

Brautigan’s exit marks the latest executive shift for the company, which operates Ross Dress for Less and Dd's Discounts, since the departure of the company’s chief operating officer in April 2019.

As of October, the company has opened over 50 new stores, as part of its growth plans for fiscal year 2019.
