Sabyasachi returns to Bergdorf Goodman for jewellery showcase

On August 24, Sabyasachi launched its third jewellery showcase to-date at department store Bergdorf Goodman in New York, to unveil its ‘Bengal Byzantine Broadway’ collection in the country.

Sabyasachi travelled to New York to present a fine jewellery collection designed to offer investment pieces, bridal adornment, and cocktail pieces, the brand announced on Facebook. The showcase will run until September 22, 2022 and features a line of limited edition pieces inspired by the historical Byzantine empire and theatrical Broadway, envisioned with Sabyasachi’s signature maximalism.

“Bengal’s grand history of handcrafted jewellery almost faded away because of a lack of patronage,” said designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee about his inspirations for the collection, Vogue India reported. “I want to bring this legacy back to the world. As heritage crafts get rarer and rarer, and as they become more endangered, their legacy will become more valuable than the most precious of gemstones. These are the heirlooms that will find their pride of place in museums tomorrow.”

Jewellery in the collection includes statement earrings, medallions, bangles, and chokers among others. As well as uncut diamonds, the collection features apaches, turquoise, corals, sapphires, and jaspers, among other precious gemstones.
