Sally Singer leaves Vogue, Stuart Emmrich named editor of Vogue.com

Sally Singer, Vogue’s creative digital director, is leaving the publication after nearly two decades to pursue other opportunities.

The magazine’s staff was alerted of Singer’s departure last week, according to media reports.

Singer first joined American Vogue in 1999 as fashion news director. After spending 11 years at the magazine, she moved to T: The New York Times Style Magazine, only to return to Vogue in 2012. That year, she began the task of growing the magazine’s digital arm, notably managing the launch of Voguerunway.com and bringing fashion films to Vogue.com starring reader favorites from Cara Delevingne to the Hadids.

Some of her responsibilities will be taken over by new recruit Stuart Emmrich, who revealed on Twitter that he will join the publication as editor of Vogue.com, a newly created role. As editor, he will oversee the title’s digital content and report directly to Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue and artistic director of Condé Nast.

"Stuart brings to Vogue not only his strong journalistic background, but a discerning understanding of the current news climate and a talent for finding new voices," said Wintour in a press release. "The skills that he has spent his career honing align so well with the vision that we have for Vogue.com."

Prior to joining Vogue, Emmrich was the assistant managing editor of the Los Angeles Times, where he oversaw lifestyle coverage. Previously, he served as an editor-at-large of the New York Times, senior editor of Time Magazine, executive editor of SmartMoney and a reporter at the Atlanta Constitution.

The staff switch-up at Vogue comes after parent company Condé Nast announced the appointment of Mike Goss as its new chief financial officer and Deirdre Findlay as chief marketing officer.
