Sally Beauty bolsters transformation efforts with two new board appointments

International professional beauty supply retailer Sally Beauty Holdings, Inc. announced on Friday that it has appointed former Target EVP, chief legal officer and corporate secretary Timothy R. Baer and former chief strategy and transformation officer at Southeastern Grocers Dorlisa K. Flur to its board of directors.

After leaving Target, Baers founded TRB Partners LLC in 2017 and continues to serve as managing director at the corporate governance and finance advisor. He is currently the co-chair of the PJT Camberview Advisory Council, and has previously served on the boards of Greater MSP and Greater Twin Cities United Way.

Flur left her position as chief strategy and transformation officer at Southeastern Grocers in July 2018 but continues to serve as the company’s senior advisor. Prior to joining the supermarket operator, she served as EVP for omnichannel at Belk from 2013 to 2016, leading supply chain and integrating stores and e-commerce.

Her previous experience also includes serving as vice chair for strategy and chief administrative officer at Family Dollar Stores, and as a partner at McKinsey & Company. She currently serves on the boards of Hibbett Sports and United States Cold Storage.

“I am extremely pleased to welcome both Dorlisa and Tim to the Board,” said Bob McMaster, chairman of Sally Beauty’s board of directors, in a release. “With their combined retail and transformation experience, I am confident that both Dorlisa and Tim will make valuable contributions to our board to help drive SBH’s transformation as well as shaping the company’s strategy going forward.”

Sally Beauty’s ongoing transformation efforts include the announcement of a comprehensive brand overhaul at its namesake banner at the beginning of this year, which aims to establish the chain as the “go-to destination for professional-grade products to confidently use at home.”

As well as unveiling a bold new brand identity and multimedia campaign, the company revealed plans for a revitalized in-store experience in selected locations, integrating AI technology and improved POS systems.

The chain has also opened applications for its new #SallyCrew influencer program.

Since the beginning of the year, the Denton, Texas-based company has also made moves to boost its digital expertise, naming Kevin Metz as its new vice president of e-commerce and Vanathy Lakshmi as vice president of digital product.

Sally Beauty reported net sales of $3.88 billion in the last fiscal year, while the company’s annual net earnings totaled $271.6 million, or $2.26 per diluted share.
