Scoop NYC begins nationwide store closures

Published
May 9, 2016

Scoop NYC is closing all 15 US stores due to high rent and increased competition, according to the American press. The retailer joins the likes of Sports Authority, PacSun, Aeropostale and Kitson that have fallen victim to financial woes this year.

This weekend, Scoop kicked off a liquidation sale at its nationwide stores and online. On ScoopNYC.com, all products including AMI sweaters, Etro and J. Lindeberg blazers, Stutterheim outerwear and Citizens of Humanity jeans are 10% off.

The contemporary fashion retail chain recently closed its SoHo flagship location in New York City. In addition to the flagship, Scoop will also shutter the doors to its New York stores in Brookfield Place, the Upper East Side, East Hampton, Wheatley Plaza and the Meatpacking District, as well as Beverly Hills and Brentwood in California, Las Vegas, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, Bal Harbour and Boston.

Founded by Stefani Greenfield and Uzi Ben-Abraham in 1996, Scoop NYC was acquired by Yucaipa Cos. in 2007. The retailer named Prentice Capital and Cerberus Capital consultant Melanie Cox as President and CEO in 2008 and hired Susan Davidson in 2009.

2016 marks as the retailer’s 20th year in business.
