Scoop teams up with V&A to celebrate textile designer William Kilburn

Published

Opulent floral designs created by 18th century illustrator William Kilburn will be featured throughout the next edition of Scoop as part of a new partnership between the trade fair and the Victoria & Albert Museum.

The contemporary womenswear show said the AW19 collaboration will spotlight the textile designs of Irish-born William Kilburn, who is considered the most famous designer of block-printed cottons in the 18th century. Highly regarded in his time, his work was admired and imitated during his lifetime, and his fabrics were favoured by Queen Charlotte.

His Kilburn Album is now owned by the V&A, holding 200 botanical designs for printed textiles.

Paying homage to him, cult British brand Pyrus London will be using his prints to create designs for Scoop staff to wear on-site during the February show, and Ratti Spa will be producing co-ordinating silk scarves. Meanwhile, stationery specialist Papier will provide notebooks with the print. Kilburn’s designs will also appear across all show material, Scoop said.

Karen Radley, founder and managing director of Scoop, commented: “We’re hugely excited to be collaborating with the V&A, a museum which has been synonymous with creativity in art and design throughout its history and remains at the vanguard of innovative design today. We feel honoured to have been given access to some truly incredible designs from the V&A archive and are looking forward to developing the collaboration further between now and the February edition of the show.”

Lauren Sizeland, head of business development and licensing at the V&A added; “We are delighted to be working with Scoop for their February 2019 edition. The V&A’s collection of fashion and textiles is world- renowned, so it is fitting that we collaborate with Scoop, the leading fashion trade show. The V&A’s rich archive has inspired designers and manufacturers around the world for generations and we continue to support emerging talent in the fashion industry.”

Scoop is returning for another season at the Saatchi Gallery in London on 10-12 Feb. 2019.
