Scotch & Soda launches first eyewear line with Mondottica

Scotch & Soda has unveiled the first fruits of the eyewear deal with Hong Kong-based Mondottica that had been announced last year. The new range, debuting now for spring/summer 2020, includes both women’s and men’s sunglasses and optical frames. The two companies had signed their agreement nearly a year ago and said it would run through to 2024.

The new products are available through opticians globally with the sunglasses also selling via Scotch & Soda’s own retail network and selected global stockists. 

The collection is made up of three key ranges that Mondottica said include “Essential reliable pieces with a twist, Aspirational models reflecting the brand’s look and feel, and unique Pinnacle treasures”.

For women, the pieces include Vegas SS5005 in the Essential line. It’s an “exploration of colour” with oversized butterfly lenses and multiple graduated tones and reflections “resembling a hot summer sundown”. 

Meanwhile SS5003 Miami, is an Aspirational piece with tequila sundown-themed gradient lenses enhanced by the geometric shape and the same thin, light temples. Crafted from acetate, Fulton SS7004 comes with a geo cat-eye shape and lightly coloured lenses so it can be worn all day. And the delicate frame Keoni Limited Edition SS5002 is made from metal with epoxy-filled top brows. It’s available in the women’s Pinnacle range, with tonal colouration.

For men, there’s Kinney SS8004, part of the Essential range that’s “a contemporary, easy-to-wear style with good old-fashioned elements”. The men's Keoni Limited Edition SS8003 comes in soft hues with tonal lenses. The frame itself is lightweight with milled detailing over the top of the lenses and a Terrazzo Palazzo marble-inspired colourful touch on the end tips. 

And Richmond SS6002 is part of the Pinnacle range. The initial inspiration for this story “comes from the intricate detailing on the metal door handles from the Scotch & Soda shops”. The company said this was the starting point for a richer brand story – the Evil Eye iconography – that shows up as engraved details on nose pads and the temples with sunburst patterns. The lenses are graduated, with a complementary tonal acetate top bar.
