Shinola and Disney celebrate 90th anniversary of Mickey Mouse with capsule collection

Detroit-based luxury brand Shinola has partnered with Disney for a Mickey Classics Collection, an accessory homage to Mickey Mouse in honor of the character's 90th birthday.

The new collection includes a range of special-edition leather goods, like a Runwell backpack featuring a stitched leather appliqué of Mickey Mouse, audio equipment, wall clocks and journals decorated with the Disney character. However, the collection's star players include five limited-edition Shinola Runwell timepieces, featuring illustrations of Mickey by Disney character artist Jeff Shelly. According to a press release given by Shinola, each illustration is unique and "inspired by iconic Mickey Mouse moments such as the character's appearance in Plane Crazy and Steamboat Willie."

The capsule is limited to 90 timepieces per style, and each watch comes with one of five original framed sketches of the the Disney mouse, as well as a special-edition "How to Draw Mickey" booklet.

As well as the collection's timepieces, the Mickey Classics collection's journals also come with a unique illustration bonus via a flip book, which features illustrator Fred Moore's version of Mickey that remains in use to this day. 

Introduced to audiences in the animated movie Steamboat Willie in 1928, Mickey Mouse continues to be the global ambassador for The Walt Disney Company. According to a press release given by Shinola, this capsule is part of "Mickey the True Original," a global celebration of the Disney mouse's heritage, personality and status as a pop-culture icon.

In addition to marking Mickey Mouse's 90th birthday, this collaboration also marks the five-year anniversary of the Runwell, Shinola's flagship watch. 

The Shinola x Disney Mickey Classics collection is available now in both brands' retail stores, at Shinola's e-commerce website and at select specialty retailers.
