Shiseido to relocate Madrid headquarters this year to double current office space

Shiseido is set to double the size of its Spanish headquarters this year. The Japanese beauty company will relocate its headquarters to Madrid and move to the Cerro de los Gamos business park, where it will have 3,138 square metres of space.

The new headquarters, which are being developed with the help of the consultancy firm Cushman & Wakefield, will be spread over two floors. The first floor will house the management department while the ground floor will house conference and seminar rooms, the cafeteria as well as leisure areas for employees. The facilities have been designed based on feedback from employees obtained through a series of surveys and discussions.

"Our new headquarters was born out of a desire to promote, through sustainability and digital technology, the well-being of each of the members of the Shiseido family. The new office will follow the group's Japanese philosophy, integrating nature into everyday life through elements such as the terrace, the main hub of our various shared leisure activities," said Belinda Riol, director of merchandising and department stores at Shiseido Spain and head of the company's relocation project in Madrid.

The Japanese cosmetics group Shiseido has been in business for over 150 years and owns a wide range of cosmetics and make-up brands, in addition to its namesake brand, including Nars, Drunk Elephant, Issey Miyake and Narciso Rodriguez, among others.

The company published its 2022 annual results in early February, still dampened by the negative performance of its two main markets, China and Japan. While predicting a challenging 2023, Shiseido said it was "optimistic" about the industry's prospects for recovery this year, following "the economic recovery in China and the transition to a new post-Covid normality" in Japan driven by its government, which has fully reopened the country's borders since last October.
