On June 9, 2016, Simon Collins will host a new Fashion-Culture-Design conference at The New School in New York City.
Fashion-Culture-Design is the definitive conversation about fashion, culture and design and how each affect the other and influence the world. The invitation only conference will bring together for one day 500 CEOs and creative leaders in hospitality, fashion, advertising, product, journalism, academia, media, automotive, communication, music and production to have debates and share ideas on fashion, beauty, architecture, food, retail, media and more.
Collins will host the three-session conference, which will begin with a morning session at 8:30am, afternoon session at 1:30pm and a closing reception at 6:00pm. The full list of panelists, speakers and topics will be released before the conference.
“People discuss these issues in private but often don’t say what they really think publically,” said Collins. “I want those conversations—wild ideas, passionate pleas, and beautiful solutions. I want attendees to be inspired by these talks and to walk away with real answers. We’ll address pressing questions of the day like, how do you fix a problem like fashion week? Right now Paris and Milan don’t agree with London and New York. Let’s talk about who’s right. Or what does beauty look like now that it isn’t necessarily 32 skinny white girls on a runway? Now that it includes any race, size, gender, body type and ability. Let’s talk about that and what it means both for fashion and the world at large.”
Collins served as the Dean of The School of Fashion at Parsons School of Design for seven years before stepping down from the position in 2014. While at Parsons, he introduced design competitions with Louis Vuitton and Kering and various internship opportunities. Prior to Parsons, Collins served as fashion designer and creative director for Nike, Polo Ralph Lauren, Zegna and Marks & Spencer, and he was instrumental in the re-launch of New York Fashion Week with WME IMG.
Fashion-Culture-Design is intended to depart from conventional conferences and have real conversations about the current state and future of the creative arts.
