Simon seeks applicants for $1 million in scholarships

Simon Youth Foundation, a national non-profit by Simon Property Group that provides educational opportunities for at-risk high school students, announced the application period for the Simon Youth Community Scholarship.

Each year, the scholarship is awarded in every community across the US that is home to a Simon, Mills or Premium Outlett Malls. The foundation has begun looking for a graduating senior who lives fifty miles of Dadeland Mall, The Falls, and Miami International Mall, and the application period ends on March 1, 2016.
 
Any student who is graduating in the class of 2016 and lives within 50 miles of a Simon property is eligible to enter. Recipients will receive up to $1,500 to enroll in an accredited college, university, vocational or technical school.

Also, ten regional awards called the “Awards of Excellence” will be given to top candidates with the eligible regions being Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Indianapolis, Miami, New York, Orange County (CA), Orlando, and Seattle/Tacoma. Students from these areas can receive a $10,000 award or $2,500 for up to four years. In 2015, The SYF awarded $1.2 million to 300 students nationwide.
 
"The cost of college continues to rise, and SYF is proud to partner with Dadeland Mall, The Falls, and Miami International Mall to award scholarships that will remove some of the financial obstacles that could otherwise prevent a student from achieving the dream of a college education," said Michael Durnil, SYF President and CEO.
 
The 2016 SYF Community Scholarship recipients will be selected by International Scholarship and Tuition Services, Inc., a third party administrator, and recipients will be notified in May.
