Smiley, the company behind the well-known smiley face design, has announced a link-up for apparel with skate-inspired brand Palm Angels.

The company said the new capsule Smiley collection “fuses laid-back vibes with a heritage feel and a modern rework of the classic Smiley icon.”

With each piece featuring the Smiley character, the design team has replaced the eyes on Smiley with a P & A to signify the Palm Angels logo in an embellished font, to provide a strong brand mash-up.

The Smiley Palm Angels collection features hoodies, T-shirts, sneakers and a windbreaker jacket, as well as a range of Smiley badges included “to add an element of personalisation and bold classic yellow colour pops.”

Smiley CEO Nicolas Loufrani said the character continues to do “very well in the high-end tier” and is a key draw for creative labels. He also said the brand has wide appeal for both men and women.

The pieces were previewed during Palm Angels’ Paris Fashion Week show with Loufrani also saying that the collaboration will be available in “department stores and boutiques across the world.”

Palm Angels was founded by former Moncler art director Francesco Ragazzi who began photographing skateboarders in Venice Beach and was inspired by this to launch the unisex brand.

It currently sells through retailers such as Barneys, Selfridges, Saks Fifth Avenue, Harvey Nichols and Browns.
