Sonia Rykiel opens first US store

French fashion label Sonia Rykiel has opened its first US boutique in New York.

The Parisian designer's new Madison Avenue store will house ready-to-wear, accessories, leather goods and footwear collections.

Inspired by the literary cafes of Paris, the store features floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and a red lacquer décor. Vintage 1960s furniture and a carpet comprising a playful pattern of lips, cigarettes and books completes the effect.

The news signals the brand's biggest step towards the US market yet, following a series of shop-in-shops established in Bloomingdales last year.
