Sunspel sets foot in Paris at PHM Saint Pères concept store
In the last two years, Sunspel has pushed for expansion outside the UK. The venerable British underwear label, whose roots go back to the workshop founded by Thomas Hill in Nottingham in 1860, has boosted its presence in Japan by opening a store in Tokyo, and added its first in Germany, in Berlin's Mitte district.
And now Sunspel is toeing the waters in Paris. The brand, well-known for having outfitted Daniel Craig in 'Casino Royale' with its Riviera polo, will take over half of the retail area at men's concept store PHM Saint Pères, already a stockist, until December. PHM Saint Pères will showcase Sunspel's signature best-sellers, from boxers (€45) to tee-shirts (€80) to polos (€110). In addition, Sunspel will present swimsuits, sweatshirts, jackets, sweaters, trousers, parkas, and wind-breakers, as well as a wide range of accessories. The entire collection is made in the UK, with quality materials such as Sea Island cotton and Cellulock.
According to British media, Sunspel sales topped the €10 million mark last year (GBP9.4 million) and the brand operates eight monobrand stores in the UK. It is also present in approximately 200 multibrand stores worldwide, chiefly in the UK (among them Flannels, Harrods and End Clothing), the USA (Barneys, Opening Ceremony), and France (besides PHM Saint Pères, Trotters in Paris and Le Rayon Frais in Bordeaux).
