Austrian jewellery brand Swarovski announced on Monday plans to open a service centre in Costa Rica’s San Jose by the end of 2017, creating more than 50 jobs. A number of finance and administration jobs that require a certain proximity to the American markets will be based in the new centre.

According to a press release issued by the Costa Rican Development Initiatives Coalition, the development of the Global Business Services is part of a global strategy to ensure that areas of finance and administration remain strong and support Swarovski’s ongoing success.

“Our scope of activities in Costa Rica will include a growing number of multi-functional processes and services, jointly operated with all the other parts of our global service network,” said Wojciech Krygowski, Managing Director Swarovski GBS Hub & Spokes.

“Following a very thorough evaluation process we have decided to establish the Americas spoke of Swarovski’s Global Business Services in Costa Rica. The local authorities have been highly professional and engaged in their support for us. This has created a solid foundation for a long-term commitment," added Marcel Angst, Executive Vice President Global Business Services.

Jorge Sequeira, Managing Director of CINDE said that the opening of the centre represents the consolidation of a growing services sector in the country.

The unit will launch at the end of the year, but the official opening of the permanent office facilities is expected to take place during the first quarter of 2018. Swarovski’s Global Business Services will host up to 50 employees and will continue to be developed over the next years in line with the company’s vision.

Swarovski was founded in 1895 in Wattens, Austria. The business has currently 2,800 stores worldwide in 170 countries, and employs more than 27,000 people. In 2016, the company recorded revenue of nearly 2.6 billion euros.
