The Buckle sales decreases continue into September

Kearney, Nebraska-based retailer The Buckle released its September net sales results on Thursday.

For the five week period ended on October 1, 2016, the company reported a 14.8% decrease in net sales to $82.9 million from $97.4 million in the prior year comparable period. Net sales for stores open at least one year decreased 15.5% from last year.
 
Net sales year-to-date decreased 11.4% to $625.8 million from $706.2 million in the prior year and comparable store net sales decreased 12.1%.

The Buckle’s sales have slowed and dropped for consecutive months. The company reported in August a decrease in net sales and net income for the second quarter. The sales woes continued into August with net sales falling 14% to $87.2 million from $101.4 million in the prior year.
 
The company’s September and year-to-date results are net of the impact of both reward redemptions and accruals for estimated future rewards related to the new Guest Loyalty program, which launched during the fiscal quarter ended April 30, 2016.
