The Black Tux opens new San Francisco showroom

The high-end suit and tuxedo rental company is expanding its retail presence. Its latest opening is in San Francisco’s Jackson Square.

The Black Tux’s San Francisco showroom joins its other retail locations in Santa Monica, Chicago, New York City and Dallas. The 720-square-foot store sits alongside other high-end labels like Isabel Marant and Theory.

Cofounder Andrew Blackmon says San Francisco represents an important market for the brand. He says Black Tux has gotten good feedback on its physical stores so far and plans to continue to open new locations in major cities and even smaller towns in coming months.

The Black significantly expanded its physical presence through a partnership with Nordstrom. In March, the department store chain announced plans to open Black Tux showrooms within six of its stores in major cities like Boston and Washington, D.C. Nordstrom’s competitor Neiman Marcus has a similar deal with its Rent the Runway shop-in-shop.

Longtime friends Blackmon and Patrick Coyne founded the company in Santa Monica in 2013 to offer men a more enjoyable experience when renting suits and tuxedos. Customers are able to order suits online and try them on for free at home before renting them. In addition to suits and tuxes, Black Tux also rents out accessories and shoes.
