The first New York Fashion Week: Men's will take place in July

Published
Feb 5, 2015

"New York Fashion Week: Men's" is the name that has been given to the new fashion week dedicated to menswear, which will become part of the international fashion calendar in New York as of this July. After a two-year gestation period, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), which organises New York Fashion Week, has officially announced the launch of its very first men's fashion week.

The first edition presenting the ready-to-wear menswear collections for the spring/summer 2016 season will take place on 13-16 July 2015 at Skylight Clarkson Square in Soho, concurrently with the professional trade fair Project, which anticipated its dates for the occasion (it was originally supposed to take place on 19-21 July).

Ovadia & Sons will show at New York Fashion Week: Men's

The week will therefore not line up with the men's fashion weeks of London, Milan and Paris, which will end on 28 June, but will take place a few days after Paris Haute Couture Week, scheduled for 5 to 10 July. The winter season will take place around mid-February, the week before the women's New York fashion week, according to the American press.

Amazon will be the main sponsor via its fashion-dedicated sites: Amazon Fashion, East Dane and MyHabit. Shinola, the American manufacturer of watches, bicycles and leather goods, will be the other sponsor.

Amazon will use this showcase to promote its menswear sales, which represent an increasingly significant activity for the online retailer, with an annual growth of 8°% over the past five years.

New York Fashion Week: Men's will feature a combination of runway shows, presentations and special events. CFDA board member Tommy Hilfiger will be participating in this fashion week not only on the runway but in the inaugural event. Also on the programme are, among others: Calvin Klein Collection, Michael Kors, Rag & Bone, Public School, Billy Reid, Todd Snyder, Michael Bastian, Ovadia & Sons, Robert Geller, Duckie Brown, Patrik Ervell, Timo Weiland and Kent & Curwen, with more names to be confirmed.

An official press release for the event specifies that the program was developed under CFDA's Director of Strategic Partnerships, Adam Roth. Mark Beckham joined the CFDA in a consultant capacity as Project Director for New York Fashion Week: Men's. The event will be produced by Inca Productions.

The organisers are hoping to obtain the same success as London Collections: Men, which served as a source of inspiration for them.
