TheMicam is taking a step forward. With a bumped up schedule and a new format, the international footwear exhibition has announced that it is getting a facelift. For the first time, the event will not take place in mid-September, but rather from August 31 to September 3, 2014 - a decision that may have ruffled a few feathers on the part of exhibitors and buyers.

TheMicam’s new floor plan.

Nearly 1,557 exhibitors, including 617 from abroad, are expected to arrive at the Rho Fiera fairgrounds, near Milan, to present their spring/summer 2015 collections. Included among exhibitors for the first time are prestigious names such as Christian Lacroix, Colmar, Missoni and Porsche Design.

This time, TheMicam is doing things a bit differently. Now, exhibitors will be grouped by product type: luxury, contemporary, urban, kids, active products, cosmopolitan, street and cosmopolitan.

Numerous services are also offered to help visitors plan their trips, including on site shuttles, while a new space, "TheMicam Square", will provide information on trends in the footwear sector.

Located in Hall 10, "TheMicam Square" will host presentations, seminars and other events related to the footwear industry. Intended as the new gathering point for all those working in the sector, the square will host a round table discussion organized in collaboration with WGSN on "Future Lifestyle Design," an exhibition put on in conjunction with the Biblioteca della Moda, and a space dedicated to schools that focus on shoemaking.

During last year’s September edition, TheMicam recorded the attendance of 20,802 foreign visitors from 183 countries out of a total attendance of 38,621 compared with 41,085 for September 2012.
