Three takeaways from the Moschino fashion show in Rome

Currently in Florence for the Pitti Immagine Uomo menswear event (January 8-11), the fashion sphere made a pit stop in Rome, Tuesday, January 8, to check out the new fall 2019 menswear and pre-fall 2019 womenswear collections from Moschino. Staged in the legendary Cinecittà movie studios, the show once again proved a grandiose affair and paid vibrant homage to the legendary Italian filmmaker, Federico Fellini. Here are three things to take away from this most exuberant of runway shows.

Homage to Federico Fellini
From the choice of location -- Cinecittà Studios -- to the show's decor, not to mention the collection itself, Moschino had all the ingredients for a fitting tribute to Federico Fellini. The fashion house's creative director, Jeremy Scott, drew inspiration from the filmmaker's most famous pictures, such as "La Dolce Vita," "Amarcord" and "8½," as well as their protagonists. The result was a collection brimming with fanciful flavor, where styles and cultures -- even eras -- were mixed and matched, with men and women transformed into gladiators, divas, Casanovas and femmes fatales.

A celebration of eccentricity
In general, Jeremy Scott's collections for Moschino are often synonymous with eccentricity and opulence. The two new collections presented in Rome proved no exception, even going one step further with silhouettes such as a menswear look comprising a waistcoat and bow-tie topped with a leather jacket and a dancer's tutu. Women wore dresses with exaggerated forms, gladiator corsets over silk dresses, super-chic coats with wide ribbons as belts or trains -- a detail also seen on men's suits -- as well as retro diva gowns worn with parkas or ultra-contemporary urban-style jackets.

A five-star runway
Jeremy Scott signed up an impressive list of some of the hottest model talent of the moment for this runway event, with the likes of Jon Kortajarena, Luna Bijl, Jaad Belgaid, Yasmin Wijnaldum, Soo Joo Park, Mayowa Nicholas, Marjan Jonkman, Léa Julian, Jordan Barrett, Hannah Motler, Fran Summers, Dilone, Anna Cleveland and Cara Taylor. However, there was no sign of the Hadid sisters, who have previously walked the runway for the renowned designer.
