Time names Waight Keller and Piccioli on its 100 most influential people list

Published
Apr 17, 2019

Time Magazine has named Clare Waight Keller, the artistic director of the house of Givenchy, to its '2019 Time 100' list of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Pierpoalo Piccioli of Valentino

Waight Keller joins fellow designer Pierpaolo Piccioli of Valentino on the noted list of the magazine Time, which once famously made Christian Dior its fashion cover story back in 1957.

The 100 is a notably eclectic stew of right and left, avant-garde and populist, establishment and maverick. Notably, the Givenchy designer will be joining a truly diverse gathering that includes Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, fellow thespians Dwayne Johnson, Glenn Close, Emilia Clarke and Rami Malek; public figures such as Nancy Pelosi, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Cyril Ramaphosa, Robert Mueller, Donald Trump, Matteo Salvini and Jair Bolsonaro; and icons like Taylor Swift, Spike Lee, Michelle Obama and Lady Gaga.

“I am so proud and honored to be counted among such illustrious company,” said Clare Waight Keller, who in 2017 was named artistic director of the house of Givenchy for haute couture, and ready-to-wear for women, men and children.

Now in its 16th year, the Time Magazine  insists that 100 list recognizes “the activism, innovation and achievement of the world’s most influential individuals in politics, technology, science, philanthropy, media, business and entertainment.” Though, perhaps not everyone will regard its picks as having achieved something truly positive.

The full list is due to appear in the April 29, 2019 issue of Time Magazine, which lands on newsstands this Friday, April 19 and online at time.com/time100. According to her fashion house, Waight Keller will fete her recognition at the black tie dinner and gala event to celebrate this year’s list, scheduled for the Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City on April 23, 2019.
