Todd Snyder launched his second Tailgate store, which offers casual apparel for men, women and children, on May 12 at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. The 1,700 square-foot store, which includes a coffee shop, has a distinctive Wisconsin style.
The first Tailgate store opened its doors in 2014 near the Iowa State campus. The company also plans to open an additional two stores in 2016, one at the University of Georgia in Athens, and the second at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
Snyder explains Tailgate’s early days: “We’d make shirts for college sport fans and then sell them at the games out of the back of my dad’s car.” Over time, the company evolved into designing and collaborating on casual apparel with prolific icons from America’s history.
Established in 1991 by Todd Snyder and his father, Dennis Snyder in his father’s basement. Tailgate now operates two stores in the United States and a robust e-commerce site. In 2015, Todd Snyder also launched a brick-and-mortar store in New York City that offers men’s and women’s activewear and business attire for men. The company was purchased by American Eagle Outfitters in November 2015 for $11 million.
