Toronto Fashion Week returns in September, launches Style Art

Published

The organizers behind Toronto Fashion Week (TFW) announced on Wednesday that the biannual showcase will make its return September 3 to the 5, along with some of Canada’s top designers.

Canadian favourites such as Christopher Bates, Hilary MacMillan, Lesley Hampton and Narces, have been confirmed for another season of Toronto Fashion Week.

They will be joined by up-and-coming designers including Whyte Couture, The Feral, RVNG, Tomé and internationally recognized talent, Jared Lang.

The event will once again take place at venues including Yorkville Village, The Hazelton Hotel, the Royal Ontario Museum and a variety of art galleries in and around the Yorkville community.

“Outside of our passion and commitment to supporting emerging and seasoned Canadian designers, we are also determined to empower the fashion community to evoke change that will have a local and global impact,” said Greg Menzies, Executive Vice President & Project Lead, Yorkville Village – First Capital Realty Inc.

“We remain committed to elevating the fashion industry in Canada and support a movement that extends well beyond our borders.”

Returning to the roster of programming again this season is Style Plate where Canadian fashion designers are teaming up with restaurants and bars in Bloor-Yorkville to create unique dishes and cocktails inspired by the designers’ collections.

This season, TFW will also be inaugurating a sister initiative - Style Art - where a selection of artists will exhibit fashion focused works of art throughout various galleries within the Yorkville neighborhood.

Other returning events include Fashion Talks, a live podcast produced in partnership with CAFA, as well as the Toronto Fashion Week Designer Showroom, which provides a shoppable marketplace experience.

More events and showcases are also expected including an original speaker series by City Moguls and an upcoming exhibit created with the arts-focused content platform called Xposed.

Following the cancelation of Toronto Fashion Week hosted by IMG Canada, the Canadian city saw a slew of new industry events pop-up including Re\Set, as well as the inauguration of TW.

The official Toronto fashion showcase was purchased by Peter Freed, president of Freed Developments, in December, 2016.

The official list of designers participating in this showcase is expected to be announced this summer.
