Toronto's Yorkville Village welcomes Italian fashion exhibit

Published
May 10, 2018

Toronto’s Yorkville Village is playing host next month to another fashion exhibition, this time dedicated to Italian fashion. Kicking off 'Italian Heritage Month' in June, '60 Years of Made in Italy', will open to the public inside Yorkville Village on June 1 and run until June 30th.

A Gianfranco Ferré creation - Simone Santinelli

The travelling exhibit, previously on display in Paris, Rome, Hong Kong, Dubai and other international cities, pays homage to the sartorial leaders of Italian design, including esteemed fashion houses such as Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Valentino, Moschino, Versace, Salvatore Ferragamo, Gucci, and more.

Developed by StilePromoltalia and Galgano & Tota Associati, the exhibit explores the history of Italian fashion through a timeline that begins in 1951 in Florence, and follows the evolution of Italian fashion leading up to the notable prêt-à-porter designers of today. A selection of historical garments, couture creations, accessories, photographs, sketches and video will be on display, including memorable pieces worn in films and on the red carpet.

“We are delighted to be presenting the Canadian debut of the world-class exhibit, 60 Years of Made in Italy. This stunning exhibition provides a rare opportunity for art and culture enthusiasts to get up close and personal with some of fashion’s most iconic creations,” said Melissa Campisi, Manager of Strategic Partnerships & Event Marketing, Yorkville Village, in a news statement. “It’s a great way for us to kick off Italian Heritage Month and showcase exquisite pieces from Italy’s rich fashion history.”

In September, the shopping destination hosted an art and fashion exhibition dedicated to surrealist artist Salvador Dalí.

Yorkville Village, formerly known as Hazelton Lanes, has been under-going redevelopment plans since 2015 and transforming its image to reflect a new shopping, dining and lifestyle destination.

Last year, the shopping centre owned by First Capital Realty (FCR), welcomed Quebec shoe retailer JP Fortin – a first in Ontario - as well as Canada’s first Belstaff, a luxury British sportswear brand, as well as Chanel.
