Toronto Women’s Fashion Week kicks off

Published
Mar 10, 2017

On Wednesday, Toronto Men’s Fashion Week (TOM*) came to a close, commencing the debut season of Toronto Women’s Fashion Week (TW).

TW officially kicked off on Thursday with the Toronto Fashion Incubator’s (TFI) 30th anniversary party, as well as its annual New Labels Competition and Fashion Show.

CANIFFF fashion film screening. - The Canadian International Fashion Film Festival

Runway shows will begin Friday with a show at 5 pm with Toronto-based womenswear designer Luis Padilla, followed by a show by Shelli Oh who also presented at TOM* earlier this week. At 7 pm, Canadian fashion brand Picadilly will hit the stage, followed by runway presentations by Toronto Fashion Week veteran Rachel Sin at 8 pm, Di Carlo Couture at 9 pm, and Joseph Tassoni at 10 pm.

Over the weekend, TW has partnered with The Canadian International Fashion Film Festival (CANIFFF) to host two events including a screening of the best of CANIFFF 2016 films with a special preview of 2017 submissions on Saturday at 1 pm, as well as a screening of Made 2
Measure’s fashion documentary, Slim Aarons: The High Life, on Sunday at 2 pm.

On Saturday, Eco Fashion Week (EFW), in partnership with global thrift retailer Value Village, will join forces with Project Runway Canada winner Evan Biddell to present a new collection. Baptized VV by EB, the collection will upcycle and reuse thrifted items from Value Village, in an effort to illustrate the enormity of textile waste while inspiring consumers to rethink and reuse. The line is an extension of The 81lbs Challenge, presented at lasts season’s Vancouver Eco Fashion Week.

The weekend will also see womenswear collections by the likes of Stephan Caras, TFI New Label winner Peggy Sue, Mikael D, as well as designer to watch Lesley Hampton, and more.

Following the cancelation of Toronto’s official fashion week run by IMG last July, the organizers of TOM* launched TW.

The inaugural season of TW will take place at Waterworks in Toronto.
