Ulta, Dick's Sporting Goods, Tailored Brands move to reopen stores
Ulta Beauty, Dick's Sporting Goods and Tailored Brands have announced plans to reopen stores amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, following in the footsteps of companies like Gap, Abercrombie & Fitch and Kohl's earlier in the week.
On Thursday, Ulta Beauty announced its plans to reopen approximately 180 stores with increased safety measures and a new curbside pickup service option.
To maintain a safe environment, the company will require all associates to wear face coverings in-store and will ask all guests to do the same while shopping, and will enforce social distancing through visual cues like signage or floor decals. In addition, the company will limit store occupancy, offer contactless payment, remove product testers and increase its cleaning protocols, among other measures.
Select stores set to reopen in what the company called its "first phase" include locations throughout Arkansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah. A number of these reopened locations will offer hair services with heightened safety protocols, the company said.
Ulta said that its new curbside pickup service will continue to become available at stores across the country, in both reopened and temporarily closed stores.
Dick's Sporting Goods
The Coraopolis, Pennsylvania-based sporting goods retail company announced this week it has reopened stores in 23 states, implementing new social distancing guidelines.
Other safety measures include enforcing a designated shopping hour for at-risk customers every day of the week, installing sneeze guards at checkouts, continuing to offer curbside pickup, cleaning checkout areas after each transaction, sanitizing carts and baskets and requiring employees to wear face masks.
Stores set to reopen are located in Alabama, Virginia, California, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Utah, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee and Oregon, among other states.
The company's stores have been closed since March 19 in response to the pandemic.
On Thursday, Fremont, California-based men's retail company Tailored Brands announced plans for a phased reopening of Men’s Wearhouse, Jos. A. Bank and K&G stores in accordance with federal, state and local guidelines in the U.S. The company said it expects to open about 300 stores by Memorial Day, with the first stores opening in Georgia and Texas this week. The company is also reviewing plans to open its Moores Clothing for Men stores in Canada.
In order to ensure safety, the company said it is enforcing new procedures including temperature checks for employees, the use of hand sanitizer and masks, and social distancing protocols such as limiting the number of people in the store. The company's stores will also now offer curbside pickup.
In late March, the company announced its decision to furlough all of its U.S. employees as temporary store closures continued.
