Ulta to pay distribution staff premium for work during coronavirus crisis

American cosmetics retailer Ulta Beauty, Inc. announced on Monday that it will be paying workers in its distribution centers a $2-per-hour wage premium to thank them for their continued work during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

As employees in the company’s distribution centers continue to make the maintenance of its e-commerce business possible, Ulta also revealed that it is reinforcing its already stringent sanitation and safety measures to ensure that they are protected.

New measures at the retailer’s distribution facilities include social distancing and increased cleaning protocols, in accordance with guidelines rom the CDC.

Earlier this month, Ulta joined a wide range of its retail peers and announced the temporary closure of its brick-and-mortar stores until at least March 31 as part of efforts to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

On Monday the company provided an update, revealing that it has now decided that its stores will remain closed until it is safe for them to reopen. The retailer will continue to follow guidance provided by federal, state and local government and health officials as it assesses the situation.

“We appreciate the flexibility, collaboration and understanding our associates have displayed during this uncertain time,” said Ulta Beauty CEO Mary Dillon in a release.

“We understand the direct impact these difficult, yet important decisions have on everyone. As such, we remain committed to paying our store and salon associates through mid-April and providing benefits for those who are currently enrolled. We will continue to evaluate the impact of Covid-19 in real-time, including recent legislation such as the CARES Act, should re-openings be further delayed,” she concluded.
