Under Armour and University of California, Berkeley enter apparel deal

Under Armour and The University of California, Berkeley announced on Friday a new, 10-year apparel partnership. Beginning July 1, 2017, the Baltimore-based sportswear company will provide performance footwear and apparel for UC Berkeley’s collegiate athletic programs.

As per the long-term agreement, Under Armour will exclusively design and supply footwear, apparel and equipment for the athletic department’s men’s and women’s sports, as well as provide student internships, employment opportunities for graduates, charitable partnerships, and product discounts for campus departments.
 
Throughout the course of the partnership, Under Armour will also host Future Show, an annual open invitation challenge, and Cupid’s Cup, an annual nationwide competition that allows undergraduate and graduate students to show their inventions.

The new partnership makes UC Berkeley the 34th Division I all-school partnership and second Pac-12 conference partnership for Under Armour joining Yale University, University of Wisconsin, New Mexico State University, which was announced this month, and Davidson College, the alma-mater of Under Armour athlete Stephen Curry.
 
The company announced on Thursday a 64% jump in footwear sales in first quarter 2016 due to the strong demand for Stephen Curry’s Curry One and Curry Two basketball shoes, SpeedForm running shoes and Drive One golf shoes. This year, the sportswear provider achieved $1.17 billion in revenue making it a formidable foe against sportswear giant Nike.
