Under Armour appoints chief design officer

American athletic and performancewear company Under Armour, Inc. has named Kasey Jarvis as its new chief design officer, with an expected start date set for early April.

In his new role, he will be responsible for leading the design team across all product platforms, regions and categories, and overseeing the translation and commercialization of athlete insights and influential trends into product concepts. He will report directly to chief product officer Kevin Eskridge.

Holding nearly 20 years of experience in apparel, footwear, equipment, industrial and automotive design, Jarvis comes to Under Armour from climbing equipment company Black Diamond Equipment, where he most recently served as vice president of product and design. Prior to his work with Black Diamond, Jarvis also served as a senior footwear designer and innovator at Nike and a lead designer for Hummer under General Motors

"[Jarvis'] unique mix of design experience from the auto, footwear and performance equipment industries will help to inform and deliver on our mission to design performance solutions," said Kevin Plank, Under Armour's chairman and chief executive officer.

Under Armour is continuing to rebuild itself after a difficult period of store closures, job cuts and reduced product sourcing costs, in addition to controversy sparked by reports that employees used company money to pay for adult entertainment, limousine services and gambling - a scandal that eventually lead to the hiring of a chief people and culture officer.

Signs of progress are beginning to emerge, with the company beating analysts' estimates for quarterly profit in February.
