Uniqlo is strengthening its presence in Europe. The Fast Retailing-owned brand will unveil its first Italian store in 2019 in the city of Milan, transalpine newspaper Il Sole 24 has reported. The paper has identified a site of 3000 square metres in a palace undergoing restructuring on the Piazza Cordusio, in the town centre, barely two steps from the famous Duomo.

Uniqlo confirmed its search for an Italian location on April 13 during the announcement of its 2017 Q1 results, but gave no further details. According to Italian media, the company was already planning new openings in the country, in the form of 30 sales points to open over a period of 5 years, giving the examples of Rome and Florence in particular.

The Japanese brand, which has just announced the opening of its 20th French boutique in Lyon, continues to conquer the Old Continent, opening the doors to its first Spanish store in the autumn. Barcelona has been selected, with a location in the prestigious Passeig de Gracia. The brand has almost 50 locations in Europe already, and Italy will be its 7th market.

Uniqlo operates nearly 1940 stores worldwide, of which over 800 are in its domestic market. On the offensive, and aiming to beat Zara at the fast-fashion game, the Fast Retailing group (which also owns Theory and J Brand) is targeting 25 billion euros in sales by 2020, compares to 15.5 billion euros recorded for the last fiscal period.
