Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli to speak at The Met

Published
May 1, 2019

Pierpaolo Piccioli, creative director of Maison Valentino, is slated to speak at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in May, as part of The Atelier with Alina Cho series.

On May 21, the designer will sit down with Cho, a CBS Sunday Morning contributor and editor-at-large for Ballantine Bantam Dell, in the Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium to discuss the fashion industry and the influence of his career. The event will attended by an audience of up to 600 people.

The designer’s work began with Fendi in 1990, later moving to Valentino, where he would eventually work as dual creative director alongside Maria Grazia Chiuri beginning in 2008. During his time with the Italian fashion house, Piccoli helped to boost Valentino’s annual revenue to $1 billion in 2015. Following Chiuri’s departure for Christian Dior in 2016, Piccoli became Valentino’s exclusive creative director.

Piccoli has garnered multiple awards and honors as a result of his creativity, including Designer of the Year award at the Fashion Awards in London; a spot on the Moncler Genius roster; and a recent nomination on Time magazine’s 2019 100 Most Influential People list.

In an Instagram post remarking on the honor, the creative director wrote, “being nominated, as a designer, reminds me that I can say something through my choices and I will, now more [than] ever.

“This world needs to be moved by love, inclusivity, equality and freedom of expression, this is what I stand for and what I want to sustain with what I do," he continued.

Previous guests at The Atelier have included Olivier Rousteing, Alexander Wang, Alber Elbaz, Diane von Furstenberg, Donatella Versace, Anna Wintour, Michael Kors, and Proenza Schouler.
