VF Corp adds Veronica Wu to board ahead of global digital push

U.S. apparel company VF Corporation has named Silicon Valley venture capitalist Veronica Wu as the newest addition to its board of directors, effective March 12, 2019.

Wu will serve on the finance and nominating & governance committees of VF’s board. VF Corp executives said that the new director's experience will play an important role as the company plans its global digital expansion, particularly into the Chinese market. 

Wu founded her investment company, Hone Capital, in 2015 with initial capital from CSC Group, one of the largest and most successful private equity and venture capital firms in China.

According to a press statement, the company focuses on a new model of venture investing that combines machine learning with angel networks to deliver consistent return at scale, and has invested in more than 300 technology companies, including many throughout the e-commerce and consumer sectors.

Prior to launching Hone, Wu served from 2013 to 2015 as vice president of Tesla Motors, overseeing its China operations and leading the introduction of the company’s first car into the China market in 2014.

Wu has also spent time at Apple Inc., where she led the launch of Apple’s education and enterprise business in China from 2006 to 2013, growing it into a multi-billion dollar business, as well as serving in various senior positions at Motorola and McKinsey & Company.

“[Wu's] extensive experience in technology, artificial intelligence and machine learning, coupled with her deep knowledge of the Chinese consumer and the China digital marketplace, will be a significant addition to our board as we continue to expand our digital capabilities and leverage digital as a key growth engine for our brands worldwide," said Steve Rendle, VF’s chairman, president and chief executive officer. 

VF Corporation operates as the parent company to multiple lifestyle brands, with top performers including The North Face, Timberland and Vans.
