Visa Europe expands wallet for online shopping in UK

Visa Europe's V.me digital wallet, which initially launched in 2013, has now received backing from more UK banks and retailers.

The service, which lets users make secure online payments to participating retailers with just a username and password, has received backing from Arcadia Group, owners of Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, and Miss Selfridge. Costco and Iceland have also committed to the service.

Banks representing 55% of the UK’s 130m cards are also onboard for a national rollout starting in June.

Wendy Martin, executive director, V.me by Visa, says: "A recent study by Accenture found that almost half of consumers surveyed plan to increase the number of their online purchases in the future, so we think that the V.me digital payment service is as important for the online environment as contactless is in the face-to-face environment."
