Walgreens signs global manufacturing deal with Fareva to create inhouse beauty products

The 10-year manufacturing deal will allow Walgreens to manufacture its own beauty and cosmetics products. The drugstore chain has taken steps to increase the importance of beauty products across its stores.

 
As announced on Tuesday, the Walgreens Boots Alliance has signed a 10-year deal with global contract manufacturer Fareva. “The proposed agreement will create a partnership to provide Walgreens Boots Alliance with a core multinational manufacturing and development resource, enabling the company to accelerate its global product strategy,” Walgreens said in a statement.
 
Through the deal, Fareva will assume control of Walgreens’ manufacturing business BCM. Fareva currently has manufacturing operations in 11 countries, including the United States. The deal is expected to take effect by the end of 2017.

The Walgreens Boots Alliance was created in 2014 and oversees retail brands across the US and Europe, including Walgreens, Duane Reade, Boots and Alliance Healthcare. It also controls beauty brands such as No7, Liz Earle and Soap & Glory.
 
The drugstore chain has been increasingly focusing on its beauty and cosmetics sector. The retailer recently began stocking the popular budget brands Sleek Cosmetics and Nyx. In June, Walgreens was also forced to scrap its merger with fellow drugstore chain Rite Aid.
