In his new role, Tawiah will manage WeAre8's proprietary platform, which builds brand-consumer relationships by paying individuals who create and share content on social media, "redirecting billions of dollars in yearly advertising spend back into the hands of consumers," the company said in a press release.

Tawiah brings over 15 years of marketing experience to his new role, including a 12-year career at Nike, where he served in multiple executive roles including senior digital brand director of North America, senior digital brand director of global digital brand, and senior digital brand lead of global football, Fuelband and emerging markets.

According to WeAre8, Tawiah "shaped the evolution of Nike's global digital ecosystem, and was a key force in driving its double-digit growth over the past decade," during his tenure at the athleticwear company. He also drove "some of Nike's largest global activations, such as the 2010 FIFA World Cup (South Africa), 2012 Olympics (London), and 2014 FIFA World Cup (Brazil)," in addition to assisting the company in forming key partnerships with a variety of sports clubs, athletes and cultural influencers."

"When people are directly empowered, recognized, and rewarded for their creativity and humanity, brands will be able to establish long term relationships with their greatest advocates, rather than target them with impersonal ad campaigns on platforms that don't honor their creativity, but only see people as eyeballs and clicks," Tawiah said in regard to his new role.

This appointment follows the company's newly announced partnership with Outfront Media in November.
