The $1 billion dollar revitalization of Westfield Century City will debut in a grand opening celebration next week that showcases an upgraded retail experience for the 1.3 million square foot mall.

The grand opening will unveil a new three story Nordstrom. It will also debut new outdoor spaces including the 18,000 square foot Atrium venue for entertainment and events, designed by the iconic LA-based designer Kelly Wearstler. Atrium will host both black tie affairs and ticketed events.

Tenants include luxury gym Equinox, a completely remodeled Bloomingdale's and a new two level Macy's. Most of the mall's 200 retail and dining tenants will be open for business in time for the grand opening.

Westfield announced it will pilot an Uber Lounge and Uber Stations at the Century City location which is a new service oriented concept for both Westfield and Uber. The foodie destination Eataly will open its first West coast location there later in October.

William Hecht, Westfield's chief operating officer in the United States said the grand opening at Century City will reveal Westfield's new vision for its portfolio of properties.

The revitalization comes as Westfield is trying to fight back against the demise of malls. According to Westfield's official statement, the new Century City mall is a "fashion retail, food, health, wellness and fitness [destination that] is designed to fulfill evolving consumer needs."

In addition to fashion, food, and fitness, Westfield has partnered with both the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and the Annenberg Center for Photography for long term public displays of art. The mall also will showcase work from its own permanent collection that includes sculpture from ceramics artist Stan Bitters and large scale work by Japanese-American artist Jun Kaneko.

The grand opening will take place on Tuesday, October 3. LA's mayor Eric Garcetti and Westfield CEOs Peter and Steven Lowy will host along with charity event partner Infinite Hero Foundation. There will be an invite-only concert performed by top LA musical talent for VIPs. The general grand opening experience is open to the public.
