Women's fashion label Suno to shut down operations

New York City women’s fashion label Suno has reportedly shut down its business, effective immediately, according to the American press. The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist founded by Max Osterweis will not produce and ship spring 2017 despite fulfilling its orders for cruise 2017.

 
Osterweis said in a statement, "After eight extraordinary years, we have decided to close this chapter and let this resort collection be our last delivery. We have been humbled by the incredible support that we have had from the moment we launched. It's been a wild and wonderful journey and we would like to extend our deepest thanks to everyone who has been there along the way."
 
Founded in 2008, Suno offered clothing with vivid prints and textures produced primarily in New York City, India, Romania, Italy and Kenya. Osterweis was inspired to launch the label after witnessing the post-election violence in Kenya. The company collaborated with local artisans and created workshops to help women support their families and enhance their lives.

Suno, before it officially launched, appointed Parsons School of Design graduate and former Gap, Donna Karan and Generra designer Erin Beatty to serve as co-designer. Together, Osterweis and Beatty were finalists for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2011 and 2012, were nominated for London’s Design Museum Design of the Year Award and won the Source Award for Commitment to Sustainability in 2012, won the CFDA Swarovski Award for Women’s Wear Ethical Production in 2013, and was a finalist for the LVMH Young Fashion Designers Prize in 2014. The label was also one of the inaugural designers for the Forward by Elyse Walker x CFDA Rising Talent Program.
 
Suno was reportedly unable to find an investor and is shutting down as a result. Also, Beatty is expected to continuing designing either for her own label or at another fashion label.
