Toronto’s Yorkdale Shopping Centre announced on Wednesday the launch of FashionCan, a showcase of the latest collections from leading and emerging Canadian designers.

The two-day event will take place October 16 and 17, and will directly connect Canadian designers to media, buyers and consumers while driving national and international exposure.

“There has been a dramatic shift in the fashion industry where consumers are more engaged than ever with designers,” says Lucia Connor, Yorkdale Shopping Centre’s Marketing Director, in a news statement. “We see FashionCAN both as an event that will allow designers to connect with buyers to preview their upcoming collections and make important sales, and also as an event where consumers can celebrate the looks they see fresh off the runway. Yorkdale has been the centre of style for many years and creating a new event and providing a venue that allows our talented design community to focus on the business of fashion benefits the entire industry.”

The event will see several designer showcases including runway shows by Mikhael Kale, Lucian Matis, Pink Tartan and UNTTLD, as well as leading emerging designers such as Daniel Christian Tang, Jennifer Torosian and Christopher Paunil.

The shows will be held throughout the day on Sunday, October 16 and Monday, October 17, in Yorkdale’s new expansion wing prior to its public opening on Tuesday, October 18.

A FashionCan Pop-Up Shop will also debut within the expansion and run from October through December. The Pop-Up will house current clothing and accessories available for purchase as well as Spring/Summer 2017 collections for preorder.

This invitation-only event was created in partnership with The Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards.

Yorkdale Shopping Centre is Canada's premier shopping destination. It is located at 3401 Dufferin Street in Toronto.
