Zumiez sales creep up in October

Published

Youth-oriented specialty apparel, footwear and accessories retailer Zumiez Inc. reported on Wednesday that its net sales increased 0.6% in October, bouncing back from a decline in September.

The company’s sales for the month totaled $61.9 million, compared to $61.5 million in October 2017.

Comparable sales rose 1.6%, compared to an increase of 6.6% in the prior-year period.

Zumiez’s announcement comes after the company reported an 8.0% decrease in September sales, which totaled $7.7million, down from the $84.4 million achieved in the same month in 2017.

Earlier in the year, the company reported its strongest second quarter in several years, with sales increasing 13.9% to $219.0 million, and comps rising 6.3%.  Net income in the second quarter came to $4.4 million.

In a press release published at the time, Zumiez CEO Rick Brooks explained that the company’s sales gains were driven by “Our differentiated merchandise offering combined with our authentic brand positioning and seamless multi-channel shopping experience.”

The company’s current outlook predicts third-quarter sales in the range of $247 to $252 million.

Zumiez currently operates 703 stores in the US, Canada, Europe and Australia under the Zumiez, Blue Tomato and Fast Times banners, as well as three brand-specific e-commerce websites.
