Alexander Wang launches new fashion schedule with 'Collection 1'

Alexander Wang took to New York on June 3 to roll out his newest ready-to-wear collection – the first since the designer announced plans to ditch the traditional fashion industry show calendar back in January.

Dubbed "Collection 1," the Spring/Summer 2019 offering stayed true to the designer's signature New York-centric streetwear aesthetic, but combined elements of sportswear with nostalgic Americana references and some fairly outlandish beauty looks.

Bella Hadid and Kaia Gerber were among the supermodels that took to the catwalk wearing an assortment of baggy trousers, lacy bralettes and oversized tracksuits. There was casual athleisure and high voltage glamour, with the designer teaming windbreakers and preppy tube socks with denim hot pants and sheer tops. There were embellished blazers, elegant trenches and leather mini skirts, but there was also plenty of ripped denim, voluminous shirts and chunky hi-tops.

In terms of accessories, the bandana reigned supreme, with the models sporting the patterned scarves tied around their necks and foreheads. There were also some slightly more subversive-looking lace face masks embellished with punk-style safety pin motifs, and the odd pair of sporty sunglasses.

When it came to beauty, Wang doubled-down on his patriotic theme, sending models down the runway with stars and stripes painted on to their faces. Hair was kept loose and unfussy for the most part, while the makeup was polished and pretty, featuring a healthy dab of pink blush and popping fuschia lip.
