The e-commerce giant opened its 12th physical location at the newly renovated Westfield Century City mall in Los Angeles. The Seattle-based company already has plans to open more stores across the country.
On Tuesday, Los Angeles’ Westfield Century City mall opens its doors after a $1 billion, two year-long renovation. The newly opened space includes a three-story Nordstrom, a three-story Bloomingdales and a two-floor Macy’s. The new mall also plans to open more stores shortly, including a California outpost of Italian marketplace Eataly in October.
The new Westfield Century City Amazon Books is the first Amazon store to arrive in Los Angeles. The space holds over 3,000 books with a discounted price available for Amazon Prime members. None of the books have barcodes, and at the store shoppers can purchase the books using the Amazon app. To mimic the online shopping experience, the in-store book displays also include reader reviews.
Amazon already has plans to open more brick-and-mortar stores in California, and in other states such as Texas and Washington, D.C. The online retailer opened its first physical store in Seattle in 2015.
The Seattle-based e-commerce company also recently announced plans to establish a second headquarters in the United States, and invited cities to make bids to the company to host the new offices.
