Amazon will open new Manhattan office in 2018

The new 360,000-square-foot office will open in Manhattan’s West Side neighborhood in 2018. The retail giant plans to add 6,000 jobs in fashion and advertising sectors to New York State by 2019.

Located at Brookfield's 5 Manhattan West, Amazon’s new office will primarily focus on its advertising team. It will also create new jobs for the Amazon Web Services and Amazon Fashion teams.

Over the next three years, Amazon hopes to create 2,000 jobs for New York City and 6,000 jobs for New York State by 2019.  The Seattle-based company already operates two Amazon Books locations in the city and a Fashion photo studio in Brooklyn. It has also announced plans to open a fulfillment center on Staten Island.

Earlier this month Amazon also announced it was on the search for a second headquarters, and invited cities to approach the company. New York City mayor Bill de Blasio expressed interest in the possibility.

Amazon has significantly expanded its presence in the fashion sector in recent months, with partnerships with brick and mortar chain Kohl’s and brands Nicopanda and Swarovski. The online retailer has also launched shopping services to its Prime customers, expanded its beauty offerings and developed an original line of shoes and accessories.
