Amer Sports acquires Sports Tracker app

Under Armour, Nike, Adidas... Sports companies are all investing in fitness tracking apps. Amer Sports, which owns the brand Arc'teryx, Salomon, Atomic, Wilson, Mavic, and Suntoo Prector, is the latest company to join the game.

The Finnish company has recently acquired the app Sports Tracker, which boasts 2 million monthly users in 200 countries. The app was developed in 2004 by researchers at Nokia Research Center. In 2009, they founded the company Sports Tracker Technologies. According to the company, it has tracked more than 2 billion kilometers using GPS technology since its founding. The acquisition by Amer Sports should enable it to grow more quickly and to offer new solutions for workouts, as well as for new sports.

As for Amer Sports, the acquisition, which is expected to conclude in late June, will allow the company to strengthen its "digital ecosystem" and to reinforce its sales of connected devices as well as bolstering its e-commerce.
