Converse x Dr. Woo exclusive capsule launches
Hollywood celebrity tattoo artist Brian Woo, aka Dr. Woo, has unveiled his debut collaboration with Converse at Maxfield.
“I wanted something clean and not obvious or expected of me," said Dr. Woo, of his Converse x Dr. Woo Chuck 70 collaboration.
A limited run of signed and numbered personally tattooed leather Chuck 80s helped kick off the collection at a private event at Maxfield on January 17th. The custom Chuck 80s held a retail price of $1,095.
The mass market collection centers around more affordable black and white high top Chucks embroidered with spiders in the line drawing style of Dr. Woo's minimalist tattoos.
Dr. Woo said that he used to “draw all over Chucks, tear 'em up." To that end, the Converse x Dr. Woo Chucks are meant to be worn “’til they are destroyed.”
The artist's goal was for the consumer to create a personal relationship with the shoes as they wear the shoes, a departure from the traditional sneakerhead collector that preserves limited edition footwear unworn in a box. The shoes are designed to scuff, stain and develop a unique patina as they age.
The spider web and fly imagery seen in the Converse x Dr. Woo collection are central to Dr. Woo's tattoos. Dr. Woo has a celebrity clientele and over 1.3 million Instagram followers.
Converse x Dr. Woo becomes available starting January 20th at select global retailers and on Converse's website. The shoes retail for $170.
