The scheme, backed by government money, will create 100 jobs in the area according to Financial Times. Culimeta, which has set up a subsidiary firm English Fine Cottons, plans to occupy a refurbished Victorian mill in Dukinfield, Greater Manchester.

The company expects to become a supplier of high-quality thread for the fashion industry, and to spin some of the most luxurious yarn in the world from Barbados, India, the US and Egypt, as it claims the worldwide demand for luxury goods ‘Made in Britain’ is rising.

According to FT, the British/German manufacturer has received for the task a £2 million loan from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and a further £1 million award from the N Brown Textile Growth Programme.

Currently Culimeta runs the only remaining cotton spinning plant in the UK, where it produces technical fibre yarns for the manufacture of protective clothing. The company exports more than 85% of its production.
