Etsy, the online marketplace dedicated to vintage and handmade items, has acquired the French start-up Alittlemarket. The New York company is continuing its shopping spree, having purchased Grand St., dedicated to the sale of indie electronics, in May.

Financial details and the terms of the agreement were not disclosed. For Etsy, this purchase could strengthen its position in France significantly. And the Brooklyn-based company intends for the French site to keep its identity. Founded in 2009 in France by Nicolas Audiffret and Nicolas Cohen, Alittlemarket is a marketplace where users can buy and sell handmade items in France.
The Paris-based platform, which also launched ALittleMercerie in 2011 for arts and crafts supplies and ALittleEpiceria for gourmet foodstuffs, states that it offers more than 2.6 million items online. As for Etsy, which saw a 1.35 billion dollar turnover in 2013, it officially has over 40 million members and offers no less than 25 million items online.
