Filson enters Canada with first store

American heritage brand Filson will enter the Canadian market in 2017 with the opening of its first Canadian location.

The Seattle-based outdoor clothing and luggage maker will open a 1,545-square-foot store at 47 Water Street in Vancouver’s trendy Gastown district. The store will open in March, while a second retail location is also set to follow later this year. Toronto is expected to be another potential Canadian market.

“We believe Gastown is a great fit for Filson: The retailer will be well-positioned in this destination neighbourhood, which offers historic charm, while embodying all that is hip and cool in the bustling city,” says Think Retail, the brokerage firm that coordinated Filson’s Canadian expansion.

Filson was founded in Seattle in 1897. It was purchased by Dallas-based private equity firm Bedrock Manufacturing in 2012. The company carries a selection of outdoor apparel for men and women as well as an assortment of leather bags.

Canada is Filson’s second international market. The brand currently operates a retail location in London as well as in New York City, Washington DC, Portland, Minneapolis and more.
